2010 Performers
Virginia Whirlwind
The Virginia Whirlwind started about 4 years ago as a group of friends gathering together for cookouts and card games. They brought their instruments and entertained willing to listen. They consider themselves just a bunch of backyard pickers that play for pure enjoyment and sometimes a free meal. They appreciate the opportunity to play wherever needed especially if it helps their community. This year, they will warm up for the New Ballards Branch Bogtrotters at the Carter Family Fold.
The band is made up of Randy 'Pooch' Mullins playing banjo, his daughter, Kaylee, singing lead vocals and her boyfriend, Justin, playing mandolin and sometimes guitar. Jonathan Mullins plays Upright Bass and his wife, Susan, plays rhythm guitar. Greg Vanover plays lead guitar and Dale Kennedy adds a special touch with his fiddle.
Kaylee has lots of singing achievements to her credit. These include winning first place at the Best Friends festival, the VA-KY fair, and the Colgate Country Showdown. Also, she traveled to Richmond to compete at the State Fair. The rest of the group plays purely for enjoyment.
