Tennessee Skyline

Although Bluegrass music has branched off into different paths down through the years, as other music has done, some things are better (at times) just left alone. That is the feeling of Tennessee Skyline's members. Their own songs have the flavor and taste of material that is from a bygone era. Respect for traditional music is well-represented here.

Nothing describes this band better than the statement on their business card - "Where Traditional Music is a Way of Life." Each member of Tennessee Skyline certainly has his head focused in that direction.

From Surgoinsville, Tennessee, Tommy Freeman was raised in a musical family where music was as much a part of life as cutting stove wood. He is also a songwriter to go along with his vocals and guitar playing. From "the old school," he is "His Own Man" in bluegrass music.

Audey Ratliff of Church Hill, Tennessee, has brought to the band tasteful notes and arrangements on the mandolin. Audey is a well-balanced musician who has always added to any group he has worked with and none more than here.

Hard working, dedicated, talented, focused, humble. These are just a few words out of hundreds that could be used to describe Kayley Thomas and her music. At 16 years old, one would wander, how she seems to have so many miles behind her without traveling that far when you hear her play and sing. The bass is just one of her many talents.

G. C. Matlock of Kingsport, Tennessee makes one wonder how a man can find so much tone in a guitar. A lifetime of music is what you hear when this man walks out on a stage and steps up to the microphone. Also known as "The Rock", G. C. can be described as "man says little - guitar says much."

Originally from Whitesburg, Kentucky, Roger now lives in Johnson City, Tennessee. He gives any group the thought that "this guy can do his part and do it very well." He grew up on the old albums of Carter and Ralph Stanley, and it shows with his vocals and banjo playing.

Nathan Aquino is a straight ahead, I'm here to pick, musician that knew from the start what he wanted and which direction he wanted to go. He has never been satisfied doing something to "just get by." He always wanted to be his best and is still doing that. In the short time span that he has been picking he is well respected on the banjo with his solid Scruggs style.
